HiFi
« on: February 25, 2016, 12:38:23 AM »
*S*

Apart from games, what is your favourite or current HiFi system you have or want to have, why I ask is because im building a Yamaha system and thoughts of interconnects?

I'm building a simple but yet really powerful Yamaha system with design and punch quality of 85rms

AMP
Yamaha A-S501

CD
Yamaha CD-S300

Speakers
Yamaha  NS-F150 PB (Piano Black is lovely on these speakers) Power handling 150 so ample should be 2x Amp or near enough.

Interconnects

Speaker wiring
QED Profile 79 black strand

Digital Coax custom made, by me.

All you need is a solder iron and the cable takes 5 mins its the cable you use that makes the difference.

My first real hifi kit was a Harman Kardon Amp (1991), with a cheap Sony tuner, Sony record-player (1980), Harmon Kardon CD-player (1991) and bi-wired Mission 763 speakers (1991).

I updated a cpl of years ago to the massive NAD C 725BEE Stereo Receiver, Rega RP1 record player, NAD T577 Blue-ray and I kept the Mission 763 speakers. Connected a Mac mini to the amp and Samsung flatscreen for Netflix, WebTV, Apple Music and iTunes.

Basically you can have endless talks about this. I selected the Harman Kardon CD-player back in 1991 by listening sessions in a studio and in the end only Mahlers 7th symphony and a number from Paolo Conte's Collezione made the difference.

I use special made big thick copper wiring between amp and speakers, biwired so the hi and low speakers are both separately fed.

I use quality cinch cables between the components but not very special, preff goldplated contacts.

Not too keen on Yamaha. Do Japanese understand Western music?

Wiring is so old I do not know (1991). But it great quality, old school.

3 Tunes depends on the period of the year, my mood and weather. Among them are songs like:

Fool's Overture - Supertramp
Feel the Benefit - 10CC
Grendel - Marillion
